Turkey has strong 4G across Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and the Aegean and Mediterranean tourist coast, with 5G now rolling out in the major cities. Turkcell holds the widest and most reliable network, including the popular resort areas around Antalya, Bodrum and Fethiye and the inland draw of Cappadocia. The realistic weak spots are remote stretches of the eastern interior, high mountain areas and some rural sections between coastal resorts. For Istanbul, the coast and the main tourist regions, connectivity is dependable.
Typical local SIM: $15-30. Usually sold at operator stores in cities and resort towns, plus counters at Istanbul (IST and SAW), Antalya and Izmir airports; passport required. A passport is required to register a Turkish SIM, and prices at airport counters carry a markup over city stores. Note that a phone registered on a Turkish SIM is blocked after about 120 days unless the handset is registered with customs (a tax applies), which makes a travel eSIM simpler for longer or repeat stays. EU carrier terms does not apply in Turkey, so a Greek or EU plan will not cover a Turkish leg.
