Vodafone offers the widest network with the best rural reach.
Ireland has solid 4G across Dublin, Cork, Galway and the main towns, with 5G now established in the cities and larger urban centres. Vodafone and Eir carry the broadest national coverage. The familiar weak spots are the rural west and southwest, the Wild Atlantic Way headlands, the Connemara and Kerry uplands, and the more remote stretches of the midlands, where signal can drop on the smaller roads. For city travel and the main tourist routes, coverage is reliable.
Typical local SIM: $15-25. Usually sold at operator stores in any town, plus supermarkets and convenience chains; airport counters at Dublin. Ireland is in the EU, so EU carrier terms is included on most prepaid plans and an Irish or EU eSIM works across the continent under the carrier terms. Note that Northern Ireland is part of the UK, where carrier coverage area no longer apply.
For a short trip or a road trip around the island a travel eSIM is the simplest call. For a long stay a local pack is cheaper per gigabyte.

strong national coverage and good 5G in the cities, reliable across most of the country.
competitive data pricing and solid urban coverage, weaker on the remote western roads.
you want to land connected at Dublin, skip the store visit, or you are touring Ireland as part of a wider EU trip.
you are staying a month or more in Ireland and want the lowest price per gigabyte from a local Vodafone or Three pack.

It is the median price per GB of mid-tier plans in the live Ireland catalogue. Small 1 GB teasers and 50 GB or larger bulk plans are excluded so the figure reflects a typical traveller choice.
The page shows the current 5G coverage indicator, a transparency score and the main local operator. These are destination-level signals, not a guarantee for every street or device.
The decision section compares the practical trade-offs. A travel eSIM is usually simpler for a short visit; a local SIM can make sense when you need a local number, longer service or local pricing. Check the current conditions before deciding.
